My thoughts on this election year.

Ya know;

Election years just flat out are annoying.  I know they happen every year but especially the big ones…Presidential, and Gubernatorial.

The fact is I’m tired of it.  Tired of them shilling for my vote.  I’m tired of them trying to sway me with half-truths, and mud-slinging to get me to behave the way they want me to.

The fact is…most people vote their party…or their heart.   They don’t vote for Bush because he had a really cool ad campaign, or for Kerry cause he got these boat captains to endorse him.  I don’t care.  I voted for Bush because he was the closest I felt to what I believe in (at the time).  Values, conservative ideals, and personal responsibility.

Yes since he’s been in office he’s been about little to none of those…but that’s beside the point.

Now we’re in a new election year…and for the first time in 20 years we’ll have someone who doesn’t have the name Clinton or Bush in the oval office.  What a thought that is.  20 years.  20 years ago Bush Sr. got in office, and then Clinton and then another Bush.  I’m glad Hillary didn’t get the nod just so we can have some new blood.  So now here we are in 2008…and we have to decide between two senators who have never served in an executive position…and I gotta say…I don’t think this is going to be close.

McCain is the better man.  He is.  The fact is…he’s been around a lot longer than Barack.  He’s lived through the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and new millennium.  Imagine how different life was when he was a boy to what it is now.  An America fresh off a world war, where values still existed, and being American meant something.  Barack was born in the tumultuous 60’s.  He’s only known schools that teach liberal agendas, and he bought into them hook line and sinker.

I’m not going to vote for Obama .  The fact is…the man is as oily as they come.  At no point has he answered a single question simply, and succinctly.  The man’s whole platform is that he isn’t George W. Bush (it didn’t work for Kerry…it won’t work for you).  The fact is…McCain is a VERY liberal conservative.  Moderate as the day is long.  His senatorial voting record shows that…but he is (again) as close to my beliefs as we can get.  I can’t say that about Obama because I don’t think the man HAS any beliefs.  He’s a politician.  He’s adaptable and as steadfast as water in a waterbed when a fat guy like me gets in it.  The fact is…he’s a salesman with no pitch, no product, and great rhetoric.   Great rhetoric can win you an election (we saw it with George W. Bush)…but it can’t make you a great leader.  That is what this country NEEDS right now.

We need a leader…and I for one hope I’m in the majority come November
